Betal Leaf (100g)
Thai Name: Bai Ploo / ใบพลู (กินหมาก)
A thick, smooth, dark green leaf, broad at one end and pointed at the other. This is the leaf known as paan in India, a word indicating not only the leaf but also the whole package called a chew or quid of betel.
This is a little parcel of betel leaf wrapped around fragrant spices, tobacco leaf, slaked lime paste, coloured shreds of coconut and fine shreds of areca nut (often called betel nut through association, though it belongs to a different species).
