Thai Turmeric (100g)
Thai Name: Kamin Leung / ขมิ้นเหลือง
A rhizome of the ginger family, it has large leaves. Young, tender shoots are boiled and used as a vegetable in Thailand, usually served with nam prik.
The reason turmeric is cultivated on a commercial scale, however, is for its brilliant orange-yellow rhizome. The rhizome is used fresh in South East Asia, but has more widespread application dried and ground. It is included in almost every commercial curry powder.
