Khanom Luk Chub is a range of Thai candy sweets that are very attractive in appearance and well presented in natural materials such as banana leaves. The ingredients of these tasty Thai snacks include mungo beans, sugar, gelatine, coconut and natural herbal food colouring. 

The tasty Khanom Luk Chub come in numerous shapes and colours, but in size they are very small. These marzipan style desserts can be purchased from a normal everyday Thai market. One of the great features regarding Khanom Luk Chub is that they are often made to look like mangosteens, cherries, watermelons, mangoes, oranges, carrots or even chillies! These aesthetic qualities are always prominent in regards to Thai sweets and desserts. Khanom Luk Chub has been in Thailand for hundreds of years and has been a long time favourite of Thai Kings through the generations.

What makes Khanom Luk Chub such a great dessert is they are not harmful in any way, as opposed to the western style sweets and desserts that are high in fat and sugar. Items such as these are why Thai children are healthier than those from Europe or America. The presentation is so eye catching that children cannot resist them. The sweet and fragrant aroma is also a reason behind their popularity. Thai children consume sweets of this nature along with copious amounts of fruit. They have the perfect healthy eating mentality.

If you wish to cook this yourself, follow the instructions below:-

Ingredients: For the gelatine: Method:
  1. Leave the mung bean in water for three hours and then steam.
  2. Grind the mung bean well and mix it with the sugar and coconut milk.
  3. Heat it on a medium heat until it dries out.
  4. Leave it to cool.
  5. Once it has cooled, mould into fruit shapes.
  6. Use the food colouring to colour the fruit shapes.
  7. Dissolve the gelatine in boiling water and add all the sugar. Dip the fruit shapes in the gelatine a few times.
  8. Leave them to dry and decorate with leaves if required
