Green Bean Thread (Glass) Vermicelli 500g by Lungkou

Mung bean noodles, glass noodles, cellophane noodles, dried bean tread, Lunkow bean thread… the names are endless and all refer to the ultra thin translucent noodles, or vermicelli, made from the flour of the green mung bean. Glass vermicelli is a very popular ingredient in Thai cooking and is used in a variety of dishes, from spicy beef, pork or seafood salads to baked crab or prawns. Alternatively it can be flash deep fried to provide a crispy texture for salads or a unique and modernistic garnish.

Quite essentially, these delicate little noodles strongly resemble a cluster of nylon fishing lines! Because of their thinness and tendency to be slippery when cooked, they can be quite difficult to handle, so make sure you have place mats and abundant napkins on the table! So what’s the appeal? Other than being really fun to eat, glass vermicelli has the wonderful ability to absorb all the flavors and sauce of the dish they are cooked with, making them the perfect culinary compliment!

If you are serious about cooking Thai food, glass Vermicelli is a must-have ingredient and now you can get your 500g packet from Lungkow; one of the leading suppliers of authentic Thai food products. Even if you don’t have immediate plans to use glass vermicelli, they store very nicely in an airtight plastic container for up to two years. Make sure you choose Lungkow as your Thai food provider as they only deal in the best quality green bean thread noodles. Cheaper makes tend to be brittle and break apart when handled which completely detracts from their fine and delicate texture and hence, appeal.

To prepare, very simply soak the noodles in boiling water for five to fifteen minutes, depending on the softness desired. For crispy noodles, deep fry without soaking first.

These noodles should be a staple of your Thai pantry because they store indefinitely in an airtight container kept in a cool dry place.

Ingredients: 85% Mung bean and water.

Origin: China
